Another Hermeneutic
Sunday morning belly-aching grace abounding
pew-hard doubts for past actions—
Bless your heart!
Lay open text—exordium sounding
out reformed, revolted factions, sects,
denominations: shall sin more we another start?
Dig the fruit you bear there, boy?
Or the anemic soul here bared
fair for fair
sometimes declined by fading suns
withering trees in endless wear,
rot of works, rot of works.
All needed Gilead balm, a thousand milligrams
tapped sinful veins full tainted blood
amen amen
No grave can hold this body down,
can hold this doubt flood dammed
can bring home streets of gold. Amen.
