talk
next time i swear
i’ll say
i am
no good at this
& walk away or
smile & hope
the best
for both of us.
no, i’d say:
let’s say it
once again,
i am
so happy here
& you?
O, my!
not that again.
i swear this time
i’ll quit it
once
for all
& free us from
our awkward
pause.
farewell.
i’ll say
i am
no good at this
& walk away or
smile & hope
the best
for both of us.
no, i’d say:
let’s say it
once again,
i am
so happy here
& you?
O, my!
not that again.
i swear this time
i’ll quit it
once
for all
& free us from
our awkward
pause.
farewell.

This is Kooser, Williams, etc. Simple, driven by idea, picture, not some self-fashioned slavery to words. It is skeletal, ladder-like, available for all to understand. Well done.
this is a great poem, perfect in it's simplicity--economy of language and image and feeling
thank you for the kind feedback.
it is formatted a little differently than the blog allows, but the effect is as you say.
that being said, as i read the poem again--i see that it lacks any image--nothing can be seen--it is all internal--so, i guess it actually fails externally.
