Getting Through
I.
Though this morning
I am myself near the edge,
there is a promise, there,
rising up above pastured hills.
It says:
See things more clearly
In the light.
II.
Night falls away,
but a bit of the dark stays.
All around, new light
& I drive through it
as if it was there for me.
I do not mistake this for clarity.
This is merely hope.
My left eye squints, sensitive,
& my car twitches with
well worn grooves.
This is getting through.
A full moon hangs low
in the west illuminating
darkness left from night-thought.
I remember this is morning.
Though this morning
I am myself near the edge,
there is a promise, there,
rising up above pastured hills.
It says:
See things more clearly
In the light.

My left eye squints, sensitive,

well worn grooves.
This is getting through.
A full moon hangs low
in the west illuminating
darkness left from night-thought.
I remember this is morning.

I like the two stanza structure and the focus on time in the poems--not surprising as you are constantly racing against time.
There are some amazing lines in this poem. I especially like "I do not mistake this for clarity" and "This is getting through."
The end at the beginning nature of the poem really works for me.
