bringing me back

curled beneath our comfy blanket
ringers switched off
no intrusions
an afternoon nap

this day was no different
the comfort and luck of our habit

but instead of peaceful dreaming
my restless conscious attacked

a nightmare with a monster of a man
a force pulling me skyward,
helpless and alone

my dreamself screamed,
but the real me cried out
for you

before the monster got me
you were there
a hand on my shoulder
a voice of safety
bringing me back

the only constant
I trust
the only truth
I believe

bringing me back
from the demons
of sleep

again and again

back from the
demons
in me

is you
